Gustave Dore


I hereby salute a rockin' illustrator. This engraving was done in 1866.

Yes, you read that right. Not many people could come up with a haunting image like this (depicting Dante and his guide chatting with a condemned soul in Hell).
Here's to Victorian-era illustrators!

Dore did a complete illustrated Bible. All woodcuttings, if I am not mistaken... it's amazing.
